A New Cultural Education Center
- Completion Date December 2018
- Budget $64 M
- Scale 100,000 SF
The new Seattle Opera Center was constructed directly adjacent to the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall performance space on the site of the old Mercer Arena. The opera center houses administrative offices, rehearsal space and costume and set shops, while also providing a setting for the Seattle Opera’s many educational, artistic, and civic programming offerings. This new location has enlivened a key corner of the Seattle Center, and will significantly ease transportation demands between theater and set shops. The innovative building, featuring large windows looking into work and rehearsal spaces, offers the public an opportunity to look behind the scenes at what it really takes to make opera happen.
