Public Works Shops Site Acquisition & Master Plan
In November 2016, Tukwila voters approved a bond to fund the replacement and modernization of their current public safety infrastructure, including multiple fire stations, a new Justice Center, and a Public Works facility. As part of one of the fastest growing regions in the U.S., these improvements will be vital to the City’s ability to serve the needs of its population. The plan includes the replacement of three fire stations to bring them up to current seismic standards, two of which will also be relocated to improve response times throughout the region. The new Justice Center will house the police department and municipal court, as well as an emergency operations center built to modern critical facilities standards.
The Tukwila Justice Center won the Citation Award for its community engagement and commitment to equity in the 2021 AIA Washington Council Civic Awards.
